K. Fatima paints bold and expressive abstract encaustic artworks. Encaustic is an ancient art form which involves painting with molten wax. She paints intuitively, which allows her to work with the wax rather than trying to force it to do what she envisions.
A combination of beeswax and demar resin are heated on a griddle and fused with a heat gun or an open flame to create the paintings. She likes to experiment with techniques used to apply the paint to the surface, and with the surface itself. These techniques include using paintbrushes, dribbling melted wax with an open flame, and using dry pigmented shavings, to name a few.
